What to see in Haute-Vienne

Limoges – the Capital of Haute-Vienne

Le Quartier de la Boucherie (The Butchers ‘Area ) with Saint Aurélien Chapel built in 1471, the traditional butcher’s shop and the Halles de la Place de la Motte (a covered market place ) with its ceramic décor and numerous restaurants which continue the tradition of fine cooking developed in the area.

Do not miss visiting the porcelain companies, the factory outlets, as well as shops selling enamel goods, where some of the enamel designers are happy to show their skills.

In order to get an overview of the evolution of trends through the centuries, visit the Musée National de la Porcelaine Adrien Dubouché ( Museum of Porcelain Adrien Dubouché).

The City’s Historic Area, le Musée de l’Evéché, (The Bishop’s Museum) which houses enamel collections and paintings by Renoir , who was born in Limoges

Oradour sur Glane, a village whose inhabitants where massacred by the Nazis on the 10th June 1944. The village has been left as a reminder to future generations

The Megaliths tour will take you to Montrol-Sénard one of the most beautiful villages in France , typical of 18th century architecture. Châteauponsac and Saint Pardoux lake are places to swim and rest.

Richard Cœur de Lion tour (Richard, The Lion Heart Tour) is a historic route starting in Rochechouart where the 15th century castle , the Contemporary Art museum, the Meteorite Center can be visited. You can continue your visit to Chalus where Richard Cœur de Lion died.

On your way to Vassivieres , have a stop at Mont Gargan, a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the Limousin countryside, then continue your visit to Eymoutiers, a town of character, then on to Saint Léonarde Noblat, a medieval village and take a pause on the path of Saint Jacques de Compostelle.
